Volusia to Host Biggest Sprint Car, Late Model, Modified Events This Winter

Volusia Speedway Park is set to bring fans some of the biggest Sprint Car, Late Model and Modified events this winter between December and February.

Two of those events are new for The World’s Fastest Half Mile, while the other two are marquee events for the World of Outlaws.

They include the Battle in Barberville, Dec. 1-3, Sunshine Nationals, Jan. 18-21, Southern Sprint Car Shootout, Jan. 26-28, and the 52nd DIRTcar Nationals, Feb. 6-18.

BATTLE IN BARBERVILLE – Dec. 1-3, 2022
Volusia Speedway Park will debut the Battle in Barberville in December, featuring 360 Sprint Cars, 604 Late Models, 602 Late Models, UMP Modifieds and 3/4 Modifieds.

The event will mark the first time in the history of the track to feature Sprint Cars in December. The 360c.i. powered winged Sprint Cars will compete for a $2,500 payday on Friday, Dec. 2, and will be accompanied by 602 Late Models, competing for $1,500 to win.

Then, on Saturday, Dec. 3, fans will be treated to another exciting program, featuring 604 Late Models – competing for a $3,000 payday and $200 to win each Heat Race – a $1,500-to-win UMP Modified Feature and a $500-to-win 3/4 Modified Feature.

Thursday will be a practice day for all divisions.

Hot Laps will begin at 7pm (ET) on Friday, Dec. 2, and at 6pm (ET) on Saturday, Dec. 3. Tickets ($25 general admission each day, or $45 two-day general admission special) are available at the gate.

SUNSHINE NATIONALS – Jan. 18-21, 2023
A true Late Model Palooza, the fourth annual DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals will again launch a new season for the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series, along with featuring DIRTcar Pro (604) Late Models and 602 Late Models.

In 2023, the event will see an increased overall purse for the World of Outlaws CASE Late Models, now at $160,000. Thursday and Friday’s Features will pay $8,000 to win, while Saturday’s Feature will pay $20,000 to win – double last year’s finale payday.

The best Late Model drivers from across the country will gather in Barberville, FL for the three-day event, including defending World of Outlaws Late Model champion Dennis Erb Jr., 2022 World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year Tanner English, four-time Series champion Brandon Sheppard, last year’s Sunshine Nationals winner Dale McDowell, three-time Volusia winner Chris Madden, Florida-native Kyle Bronson and many more.

Thursday, Jan. 18, will service as a practice day for the three divisions of Late Models.

SOUTHERN SPRINT CAR SHOOTOUT – Jan. 26-28, 2023
Volusia Speedway Park is bringing more Sprint Car action to fans in 2023 with the inaugural Southern Sprint Car Shootout at the end of January – boasting a more than $60,000 overall purse.

The event will feature the United Sprint Car Series’ first return to Volusia Speedway Park in 18 years, featuring the best 360 Sprint Car drivers in the region.

The three-day show will see a practice night on Thursday, Jan. 26, before full race program on Friday and Saturday. The winged warriors will compete for $3,000-to-win on Friday, Jan. 27, and then $5,000-to-win on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Joining them during the weekend will be Street Stocks on Friday and Thunder Stocks on Saturday – both competing for $1,000 paydays.

The Series’ inaugural visit came in 2001 and was won by former World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series driver Terry McCarl. The Series was also a part of Volusia’s DIRTcar Nationals in 2004 with the World of Outlaws Late Models.

The full list of former USCS winners at Volusia include, McCarl (2001), Sport Allen (2001), Kenny Adams (2003 x2, 2004, 2005), Joey Saldana (2004), Chad Kemenah (2004) and Terry Gray (2004).

Of those winners, Gray, the defending USCS champion, will begin his quest for his 100th USCS win in 2023 at the Southern Sprint Car Shootout.

52ND DIRTCAR NATIONALS – Feb. 6-18, 2023
They all build to a marquee event for Sprint Cars, Late Models and Modifieds – the 52nd DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park.

The two-week-long event will feature the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series, Super DIRTcar Series, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, DIRTcar Late Models, All Star Circuit of Champions and Non-Wing Sprint Cars – bringing the biggest names in each division to Volusia.

Five Big Gator Championship trophies will be handed out, while the iconic golden gator trophy will be awarded to every Feature winner.

The first week will feature the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds all week, along with the All Star Circuit of Champions, on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars – for their season opener – on Thursday to Saturday. The iconic Big Gator championship will be determined for the Modifieds and Sprint Cars on Saturday, Feb. 11.

After a day off on Sunday, Feb. 12, the DIRTcar Late Models and Non-Wing Sprint Cars will kick off the second week. The Non-Wing Sprint Cars will crown a Big Gator champion on Tuesday, Feb. 14, while the DIRTcar Late Models continue through Wednesday before the World of Outlaws Late Models finish out the week for the Late Models. The Super DIRTcar Series takes to the track Wednesday to Saturday – after producing five straight different winners last year.

Overall Late Model and Super DIRTcar Series Big Gator champions will be crowned on Saturday, Feb. 18, to close out the week.

Last year’s Big Gator Champions, David Gravel, Devin Moran, Jimmy Phelps, Nick Hoffman and CJ Leary will look to take home another giant gator trophy, but will have to duel with the likes of Donny Schatz, Brad Sweet, Ryan Gustin, Shane Clanton, Matt Sheppard, Mat Williamson, Kyle Strickler, David Stremme and more.
